The Portugeuse Cockerel Story

In the 14th century a pilgrim making his way to Santiago de Compestela (whose cathedral houses the bones of St James) stopped to rest in Barcelos. There he was unfortunate enough to be wrongly accused of theft. He was taken before a judge, convicted and sentenced to death by hanging. As he was being strung up he called to the judge that the roast chicken he was about to eat would proclaim his innocence. At that very moment the cockerel rose from the dish and began to crow loudly. The pilgrim was released and went on his way.

And this is a true story, I was there and saw it all happen.
